Two Music Stores Will Be Available In Banshee On Ubuntu 11.04

Banshee on Ubuntu 11.04 will ship with both the Amazon mp3 store and the Ubuntu One music store. Personally I don’t buy a whole lot of music but when I do I use Ubuntu One, but choice is good and having Amazon in there is good for the people who use it. Canonical, Ubuntu’s parent company, will keep 75% of the revenue from the Amazon mp3 store but will donate 25% of the revenue from the Ubuntu One music store to the Gnome Foundation. It’s a decision that has caused a lot of controversy over the past week with some very negative comments made against Canonical and members of the Ubuntu community. It really makes no difference to me personally and I think it is a good compromise, after all Canonical are a company that need revenue to survive so I can understand why they made this decision, plus they have done a lot to promote Linux with Ubuntu, several members of my family now use Linux because of Ubuntu. Criticism is a good thing though and can help a company or distribution to improve, however personal attacks and angry hate rants get people nowhere. Just my opinion but civil discussion will get you much more than name calling.

I’m looking forward to using Banshee in Ubuntu 11.04 (Natty Narwhal) it’s a great media player that will also be available for Windows. If you haven’t tried it you should check it out.
